Abstract
The first power shortages experienced in South Africa were in 2007 and 2008 (IEA, 2020) due to a deficiency in grid-connected power lines. Eskom provides about 90% of all coal-produced electricity and struggles to meet electricity demand and maintain power units. Delays and interruptions in the planned rollout of renewable energy sources stall the energy transition in South Africa. REIPPPP is a successful renewable energy plan, but its impact on South Africa's renewable energy future is unclear. This study evaluates the factors influencing the adoption and implementation of solar photovoltaic (PV) power supply systems as a viable alternative energy source inside residential communities.
This study employed the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology to analyze drivers and barriers associated with adopting residential solar photovoltaic (PV) power supply systems. Pareto's analysis further determined the importance of each benefit and barrier to adopting the residential solar photovoltaic (PV) power supply system.
Various critical aspects have influenced the adoption of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology. The subsequent rise in awareness of green technology. The owner has the potential to sell surplus electricity to the grid according to net metering laws and get a return on investment. Nevertheless, various obstacles continue to impede the complete realization of solar photovoltaic (PV) implementation. Substantial initial investment expense policy inconsistencies and fluctuating rules pose challenges when implementing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
The declining solar photovoltaic (PV) systems have made solar energy more affordable and accessible. The increasing awareness of environmental issues has stimulated the pressing need for clean and sustainable energy sources. The broad adoption of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology has been significantly influenced by government incentives and supportive regulations, which have created a more conducive climate for investments in renewable energy.
