Abstract
This study is investigating water scarcity in South Africa, with a focus on Moteti village. It identifies challenges related to water security and availability and investigates the coping strategies implemented by community members. The study examines water access, availability, challenges, and coping strategies used by the residents. This study investigates water scarcity in South Africa, with a focus on Moteti village. The methodology of this study presents the research methods used and critically analyzes existing literature on the topic. A household survey of 180 households in Moteti village was conducted to investigate water access and availability and how it impacts the livelihoods of rural households. The study's findings suggest that the lack of water availability has a significant impact on water-related activities like agriculture, livestock herding, and small rural water-related businesses. The findings reveal complex factors affecting households' resilience to water inaccessibility. The research concludes by recommending that the government implement monitoring programs to ensure water accessibility in all informal settlements. Proper water infrastructure is crucial for the sustainable livelihoods of rural households.
