Abstract
The world is still in the process of adapting to life after the COVID-19 pandemic, and one of the adaptations that needs to be done is the way in which people work. Prior to the pandemic majority of employees worked full-time at their workplace, during the pandemic majority of knowledge workers worked full-time at the home and now post the pandemic way of working is split between full-time at the office, full-time at home, and a hybrid way of working.
In this paper, the aim is to find a sustainable way of working for engineers and project managers in the consulting engineering industry. To meet this objective a survey was sent to participants in the consulting engineering space through snowball sampling. 55 responses were obtained and of the 55, 48 responses were valid. The results of the survey showed that the hybrid way of working was favoured by the participant as being the best way of working for personal career development, worker efficiency, personal well-being, and finances. The participants also noted that the hybrid way of working is the one that will be the best in the future and the number of days required to work at the office should be at least 2, the remaining 3 days can be spent working from home.
Therefore from the results of the study, we concluded that the hybrid way of working with at least 2 days spent working at the office, and the other 3 days can be spent working from home.
