Abstract
The study explores the challenges in Africa that force Africans out of their continent to the Western world as illustrated in selected African novels in English. It examines the life led by Africans who abandon homes to pursue their dreams in the West. Research has shown that African-Western migration is common throughout Africa since Africans are overwhelmed by numerous problems at home which force them to relocate in search of comfort in the West. The research questions whether Africans must run away from problems at home and find comfort in the Western world. A qualitative research method is utilised for data collection and analysis because it relies mostly on data gathered from selected African novels, journal articles and theses. Collected data from the selected novels is examined to investigate challenges faced and the life led by African migrants in the Western world, and for evaluating the necessity of all the hustles Africans go through for them to settle in the West. The thrust is to enable the researcher to suggest solutions to challenges faced by Africans in Africa as well. The study is influenced by the tenets of the Afrocentric theoretical framework/perspective which helps Africans believe in themselves and build a self-reliant mentality.
