Abstract
The purpose of the study was to develop constructive management strategies to manage a culture of aggression by adolescents in a rural village in Mpumalanga Province.
A qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and contextual research design was used to explore and describe a culture of aggression by adolescents in a rural village in Mpumalanga Province and develop constructive management strategies. The study was organised in four phases in order to achieve the objectives of the study. The phases are arranged according to the objectives, namely:
Phase one focused on the first objective which is to explore and describe a culture of aggression by adolescents in a rural village in Mpumalanga Province.
Phase two is addressing the second objective, namely, the development of a conceptual framework based on the findings from phase 1.
Phase three was the development of the strategies for the constructive management of a culture of aggression constructively in the rural village.
Phase four encompassed the implementation and evaluation of the strategies which were developed following the findings of phase 1, 2, 3 and 4.
An ethnographic approach was used in this research study. Purposive sampling was utilised to recruit participants according to the inclusion criteria. Participant observation was the centre of data collection followed by in-depth individual interviews. In the process of data analysis, Tesch’s method was utilised to identify themes from the findings of the study which helped in identifying patterns from the interviews with the participants.
