Abstract
Blockchain technology has emerged as a transformative force with the potential to
revolutionise logistics management. In Nigeria, a country with a rapidly evolving logistics
sector, the adoption of blockchain can lead to enhanced transparency, efficiency, and security.
This research study aims to develop an integrated framework for the adoption of blockchain
technology in logistics management in Nigeria. This study identified the key factors
influencing the successful implementation of blockchain in logistics, examined their
interrelationships, and explored the outcomes of such implementation. The examined factors
influencing the successful implementation of blockchain in logistics are technical
infrastructure, data management, the organisational business model, governance structure, and
regulatory compliance.
To achieve the set objectives of the study, a quantitative research methodology was employed.
Data was collected from respondents within the logistics industry in Nigeria through structured
questionnaire surveys and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistical tools. The study
reviewed existing literature to identify relevant factors and attributes associated with
blockchain adoption in logistics. A substantial dataset of 262 responses was meticulously
scrutinised using statistical software tools, primarily SPSS version 29 and EQS 6.4.
Confirmatory factor analysis was utilised to determine the most significant attributes within
each of the five identified constructs: technical infrastructure, data management systems,
organisational business models, governance structure, and regulatory compliance. The
integrated model was developed based on the empirical findings and literature review.
The research study’s findings reveal several critical factors influencing the implementation of
blockchain technology in logistics management in Nigeria. Technical infrastructure,
encompassing security, scalability, performance, accessibility of information, and smart
contract capability plays a pivotal role in shaping the feasibility and efficiency of blockchain
adoption. Reliable data management systems, emphasising data integrity, accuracy, analytics,
quality, and completeness, are essential for successful blockchain implementation.
Organisational business models must focus on value proposition, customer segments, delivery
channels, partnerships, and innovation capabilities to align effectively with blockchain
technology. Governance structure factors include standardisation, interoperability, consensus
mechanisms, and stakeholder engagement, promoting transparency and collaboration.
Regulatory compliance attributes comprise tax, intellectual property, health and safety,
environmental standards, compliance monitoring, non-compliance reporting, risk

management, regulatory updates, and ensuring adherence to legal, ethical, and environmental
standards. Lastly, successful blockchain implementation yields outcomes such as enhanced
security, increased automation, improved data analytics, elevated trust, reduced delays,
improved traceability, and minimised manual intervention, collectively enhancing the
efficiency and transparency of the logistics ecosystem in Nigeria.
The study concludes that all identified factors within the integrated model have a direct
influence on the successful implementation of blockchain technology in logistics management
in Nigeria. The study’s empirical findings validate the significance of technical infrastructure,
data management systems, organisational business models, governance structure, and
regulatory compliance in shaping the successful adoption of blockchain technology.
Blockchain adoption leads to transformative outcomes that include heightened security,
increased automation, enhanced data analytics, improved collaboration, reduced delays,
improved traceability, and reduced manual intervention. The study’s findings offer valuable
insights for organisations, policymakers, and researchers seeking to harness the potential of
blockchain in the logistics sector.
The outcomes of this research provided a comprehensive framework for the successful
implementation of blockchain technology in the Nigerian logistics management sphere.
Beyond their theoretical contributions, the findings from the study have practical implications
for logistics professionals and policymakers, offering valuable insights into the benefits and
challenges of blockchain adoption. As the logistics sector in Nigeria evolves, embracing
innovative technologies such as blockchain becomes increasingly crucial, and this study serves
as a roadmap for navigating this transformation. Ultimately, the integrated framework proposed
herein paves the way for enhanced efficiency, transparency, and competitiveness within the
Nigerian logistics industry, positioning it for a more sustainable and technologically advanced
future.
