Abstract
The study focused on financial corporate governance in general and on developing a conceptual model for effective financial corporate governance in municipalities in South Africa (SA) in particular. Scholars from various academic disciplines have researched the complex phenomenon of corporate governance in municipalities as a crucial element in ensuring a productive, sustainable, effective and efficient local government. Although corporate governance has been widely studied, financial corporate governance within municipalities and how to maintain its effectiveness has not yet been explored.
