Abstract
This study leverages Google Trends to map regional variations in tax inquisitiveness across Nigeria, aiming to pinpoint factors influencing tax awareness and compliance within its subregions. The analysis reveals significant disparities in tax interest, with Anambra, Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory exhibiting the highest levels. These findings suggest a correlation between higher economic activity, active government initiatives, and robust tax infrastructure with greater tax interest. Conversely, regions with lower interest may benefit from targeted awareness campaigns and improved access to filing systems. The study underscores the need for sustained engagement, technological advancements, and localized strategies to enhance tax literacy and compliance nationwide, recommending the promotion of economic activity, strengthened government initiatives, simplified digital filing, and consistent educational campaigns for sustained interest and compliance. These insights offer valuable guidance for policymakers and tax authorities in developing effective nationwide strategies for improving tax awareness and compliance.
