Abstract
— Water is the most basic and important substance on earth. Every human being is fully dependent on water to survive, eat and live healthily. Many people from developing countries are struggling daily to have access to potable water and sustain their lives. In this paper, a purifier system was developed to address the poor quality of water in a rural community (Dumezulu village). Solar photovoltaic (PV) cells have been selected to power the proposed system. The Reverse Osmosis (RO) method was adopted to remove contaminants during the treatment process. This system comprises solar PV modules, a structural mounting frame, centrifugal and vertical water pumps, activated carbon and sand filters, micron filter filters, RO membrane filters, a flywheel energy storage system (FESS), an electrical Distribution Board (DB), a chemical dosing pump, and a water distribution piping.
