Abstract
The collaboration for writing this book began in November 2019 at a two-day
working conference in Pretoria, South Africa, with the aim of better
understanding how we can find ways to build sustainable communities. Some
of the participants are affiliated with universities and some are affiliated with
NGOs and churches, mostly in South Africa but also in Europe. Together they
represent a wide range of backgrounds and academic disciplines.
The basic idea in the composition of the team was that the book should
make a contribution to a dialogue between and integration of views from a
diversity of approaches, such as practitioners and scholars in the humanities,
philosophy, theology, the natural sciences, agriculture, architecture and
engineering. They all have a vital contribution to make to the broad field of
sustainability studies.
