Abstract
Organisational change is increasing the norm, yet change initiatives often fail. To mitigate change failures, the focus of literature, since the 1950s, has shifted from change resistance to change readiness. Despite the proliferation of change readiness literature, however, specific attention on the multilevel nature of change readiness only emerged in the 2010s. This chapter serves two purposes: 1) it provides a brief overview and analysis of the change readiness literature as well as examines existing (multilevel) change readiness models for their overall trend, key features, and gaps; 2) it proposes and explains a multilevel change readiness model to address the shortfalls of the existing multilevel change readiness models. This proposed multilevel change readiness model also serves as the overarching theoretical framework that guides the empirical examination of the case studies in this book.
